On our first full day in South Africa, we joined Camino Wine Tours for a tour of several vineyards in the Stellenbosch wine region. We tried everything from white wine with notes of asparagus to red wine paired with chocolate. We learned to swirl and sniff before tasting, to hold our glass against a white background and let the light shine through the glass to assess clarity, and dissected each flavor one by one to create our own descriptions, but it was often difficult to focus on wine when there was such incredible scenery.
September is South Africa’s spring. Calla lilies grow wild on the side of the road and the countryside is alive with spring flowers. Below are pictures and stories from a few of our favorite stops.
