Growing up, my very Italian family spent holidays together. This usually involved a very saucy meal, a football game (preferably televised, but we were also open to improvised games after dinner), and long hours of Monopoly. This year I’m forgoing all of the above for something new and challenging.
On Saturday, I’ll be heading out west to Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada for a week of hiking and exploring some amazing National Parks. It will be my first time visiting the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and traveling down Routes 12 and 66, some of the most scenic driving in the U.S. We’ll be stopping at Zion, Bryce, Canyonlands, Moab, and Kodachrome Basin, hiking trails ranging from under a mile to fifteen miles. If you’d like to follow my journey, I’ll be posting our daily itinerary and fun facts about where we’re heading and the hikes we’re contemplating.
The spring is a time of rebirth and rejuvenation. I like to think that a week in some of the most beautiful places in the county can also be a way to celebrate winter’s end. I hope you’ll follow the journey through blooming cacti, steep, winding trails, and nights under thousands of stars, both seen and unseen, from wherever you feel most comfortable.
